SUMMER CHECK-IN DAYS SCHEDULED
All band students who plan on marching this season must drop by the band room during one of the summer check-in days listed below. Students will pay their band fee, turn in their supply order forms and performance contracts, and be assigned their uniform for the season. If for some reason you cannot drop in at any of the listed dates, you must email Mr. McCurry. This summer's check-in dates are:

JUNE 24 from 4-7pm - Thanks to all who checked in!
JULY 01 from 4-7pm - Thanks to all who checked in!
JULY 08 from 4-7pm - Thanks to all who checked in!

The Carter High School Chapter of TRI-M has selected it's new members. TRI-M is an International Music Honors Society representing Modern Music Masters. Students that are selected based on scholarship, musicianship, and character are lifetime members of this very prestigious society. 2008 SPRING CONCERT - APRIL 28
Don't miss the final formal performanaces of the Carter High School Concert Ensembles! The Spring Concert will be held on MONDAY, APRIL 28 at 7:00pm in the Carter High School Auditorium. The band will be performing repetoire consisting of some lighter "pops" music. Guest conductors will include Mr. David Correll, Carter Middle School Band Director, and Ms. Jessica Byrd, CHS Student Teacher. We also have 5 students who will be inducted into the TRI-M International Music Honors Society on this evening. We have alot to celebrate -- Hope to see you there!!

2008 DOGWOOD ARTS PARADE RESCHEDULED - APRIL 25
The Carter High School Marching Band will be making an appearance in this year's Dogwood Arts Festival Parade on FRIDAY, APRIL 25. This is for all members of this year's marching band, even if you are not in concert band this semester. The schedule for the day/evening is:

2:00 - All Students Report to Band Room for 4th Period Rehearsal
3:30 - Return to Band Room for Pizza and Drinks - $$
4:45 - Load Buses & Truck
5:00 - Depart for Downtown Knoxville
5:30 - Arrive at Coliseum and Line Up
6:45 - Parade Steps Off - CARTER HIGH IS #6
7:30 - Depart for CHS
8:00 - Arrive at CHS

FESTIVAL PREVIEW CONCERT - MARCH 6 - 6:30pm
As the Carter Bands work hard to prepare for Concert Band Festival, it is again time for the Festival Preview Concert. This concert will be THURSDAY, MARCH 6, at 6:30pm in the CHS Auditorium. This is a quick concert intended as a "dress rehearsal" for concert festival. Students need to be at the school, dressed in concert black, by 6:00pm. Come preview what the bands will be playing at Concert Festival this year and help us prepare for a great performence.

WINTERGUARD SCORES BIG AT 2ND COMPETITION

Another big day for the Carter High School Winterguard at their second competition held at Gibbs High School. The girls had a fantastic run, raising their score from the previous competition by 16 points!!! This is a big accomplishment for these girls ... congratulations .... keep up the good work!! The winterguard will compete one last time at the Karns High School CIPA Show. If you haven't had a chance to see their performance, come out and support these young ladies at their last show. Thanks to all the parents who have continued to help out!!

CONGRATULATIONS to the Carter High School Winterguard for placing 2nd in their first competition at Maryville Intermediate School. These girls have worked exceptionally hard to perfect their show and really showed it on the floor. It was an outstanding performance!! Keep up the good work! The guard will compete next week at the Gibbs High School CIPA show.


BAND BOOSTER MEETING - FEBRUARY 25

BRING YOUR PARENTS TO SCHOOL DAY - FEB 19
Carter High School's 2nd Annual Bring Your Parents to School Day will be held on Tuesday, February 19. Parents can choose to come to one of their student's classes or attend all day. Hang out at the locker, eat lunch in the cafeteria and experience a day in the life of a present-day high school student. This is a great opportunity for you to see all of the great things going on at Carter High School. Don't miss out - call the administrative office to register (932-3434).

CONCERT AND SYMPHONIC BAND FEES DUE
If your child is participating in Freshman Concert Band or Symphonic Band this year, please send in the $50 Spring Fee. This fee pays for music, festival registration fees, transporttation, and many other items this semester.

FALL BAND PICTURES SENT HOME
This fall's individual band pictures have just arrived. Students should have brought them home for you to see. These are some of the best individual pictures that we have had! Lifetouch did an excellent job! If you would like to order any of these pictures or packages, please turn in you completed form and money in the provided envelope to the band office no later than FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1. If you have a student who was in marching band, but not in concert band, please send them to the band office to pick up their proof package as soon as possible.

This Wednesday, December 12, the Carter High School Concert Band will be performing a Holiday Concert in the Park at Dollywood. We will be performing right inside the main gate at 2:00pm. Here is a complete schedule:

CHS BAND RECEIVES SUPERIOR AT FINAL COMPEITION
Congratulations to the Carter High School Marching Hornets on a rating of SUPERIOR in the Smokey Mountain Marching Band Invitational on Saturday, October 20. In addition to the a superior rating, the Percussion received 2nd place drumline in AAAA, the guard received second place guard in AAAA, and the majorettes received First Place in AAAA and Champion in AAA and AAAA. CONGRATULATIONS BAND!!! What a wonderful way to end our competition season! Thanks for all your hard work, you have much to be proud of!!

CHS BAND EARNS SUPERIOR RATING
Congratulations to the Carter High School Band for earning a SUPERIOR rating at the UPPER CUMBERLAND MARCHING CONTEST on Saturday, September 29. The band recieved straight ones in musical performance, musical effect, visual effect, and visual execution. In addition, the Drumline and Front Ensemble were awarded 2nd place percussion in the contest and the Drum Majors received a Superior Rating. The band was the third place overall band in the competition. Congratulations Band!!!!

ETSBOA JUNIOR CLINIC - THE RESULTS ARE IN !!!!!!
Congratulations to Nathan Arnwine, trombone, and Taylor Franklin, trumpet, for both excelling in their ETSBOA Junior Clinic Auditions. They both scored high enough to be accepted into the GOLD band! Nathan had the highest trombone score of the day and is principal trombone. Congratuations to these two for an outstanding job!!! Keep up the good work, you make us proud.

This year's annual Knox County Band Exhibition will be held at the Bearden High School Football Stadium on Tuesday evening, October 16. All of Knox County's bands will be performing their 2007 half-time shows at the exhibition. HOMECOMING QUEEN - CHELSEA PEARSON

BAND HAT / VISOR MONEY DUE FRIDAY - 9/7
Students, remember that your hat / visor money is due this Friday (Sept. 7). If you plan on removing your shako hat in the stands, you must have either the Carter Hat or Visor. Make sure your personalize your hat (on the inside) so you can identify it.

CHICKEN 'N' DUMPLIN DINNER A HUGE SUCCESS
The CHS Cafeteria was packed solid for 3 hours on Thursday, August 30 for the band's annual Chicken N Dumplin dinner. Thank you to all who volunteered and students who worked tireless shifts to make sure everything ran smoothly. Special thanks to Robin Chamberlain and to Dollie and her helpers for managing the kitchen so well. Hope you didn't miss the best meal of the year, but if you did, we'll see you next year!

DOLLIE'S ANNUAL CHICKEN 'N' DUMPLIN DINNER - 8/30
Y'all come and get your fill of Dollie's Famous Chicken 'n' Dumplins at the band's annual homecoming Chicken 'n' Dumplin dinner on August 30. This is a favorite of parents, students, and everyone that comes year after year! It is definitely something you don't want to miss. Tickets are available from any band student for $7.00. The menu is loaded with Chicken 'n' Dumplins, many good country vegetables, and plenty of deserts and drinks! Get your tickets, and take it with you if you wish, or join us in the CHS Cafeteria. Serving times are 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. YOU CAN ONLY GET THIS ONCE A YEAR -- DON'T MISS IT!!!!!


CHICKEN 'N' DUMPLIN' DINNER TICKETS SENT HOME

Tickets for this year's annual Dollie's Chicken 'n' Dumplin Dinner were sent home on Monday, August 20. All band students were given 5 tickets to sell, please sell these and return the money to the band office ASAP. If you need additional tickets, they are available in the band office. Invite everyone you know - everyone that experiences this, always comes back -- IT'S THAT GOOD!!! All monies raised goes to homecoming.


MEET THE HORNETS NIGHT - AUGUST 9
Meet the Hornets Night will be held this Thursday, August 9, at 6:30 pm in the Carter High School Stadium. Everyone will meet the teams, the band, the cheerleaders, the dance team, coaches, and many other important hornets! **Band students will need to be in the band room at 5:15 pm, ready to begin rehearsal at 5:30 pm. BE ON TIME!! We have to learn the fight song and some pep tunes before we march to the field. Dress is khaki shorts and iBand t-shirts. We should be done by 7:30ish. See you there! Oh yeah....admission is FREE.


FOOTBALL SEASON TICKETS RENEWALS AND SALES
Anyone wishing to RENEW their season tickets from last year must do this on FRIDAY, AUGUST 3 in the CHS Office. (No new passes will be sold on this day - only renewals of the same passes from last year.) Starting MONDAY, AUGUST 6, season tickets will go on sale in the CHS Office on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE basis. Season tickets are $40 and cover only the 5 regular season home games. (Not Play-offs)


CHELSEA PEARSON NAMED HOMECOMING CANDIDATE
Congratulations to this year's Band Homecoming Candidate, Chelsea Pearson. Chelsea was elected as the band's candidate on the last day of band camp. She has many great ideas and will call on you to help her out. Remember that homecoming funds pay for many band activities - everyone needs to help out. Congratulations Chelsea!

Congratulations to the Carter High School Majorettes for their successes in the Drum Majorettes of America National Competition at Gardner Webb University. Autumn Jackson, Jessica Hendricks, and Katie Pyle competed and won the championship in the Specialty Twirl Team and also recieved First Runners Up in the Open Specialty Twirl Team. Congratulations Majorettes ... keep up the great work!! The Carter Majorettes are coached by Ms. Jeanni Grigsby.

A HUGE thank you to the area churches that provided lunch and snacks for the band during band camp! Lyons Creek Baptist, Chilhowee Hills Baptist, Thorngrove Baptist, and Ebeneezer Baptist churches spent much time and effort providing our lunches for the second week of band camp ... and they were wonderful! Thanks to all of the volunteers who showed up to cook, serve, and clean. A special thank you, also, to the Lyons Creek Sunday School Class that provided popsicles for the band in our hot afternoon rehearsals!

2007-08 DRUM MAJORS SELECTED
After an intense afternoon of tryouts, your drum majors for the 2007-08 school year are: TAYLOR ANDERSON & NAKIA LEACH. Every candidate that tried out did an exceptional job and the choice was not an easy one to make. Congratulations to Taylor and Nakia on their hard work.

Congrations to AUTUMN JACKSON, JESSICA HENDRICKS, ALI INMAN, and KATIE PYLE for being selected as the 2007-08 CHS Majorettes. They too did an incredible job in their auditions. Congratulations ladies.

 

CARTER MAJORETTES WIN STATE COMPETITION !!
The CHS Majorettes, Autumn Jackson, Ali Inman, and Jessica Hendricks won FIRST place in the DMA (Drum Majorettes of America) state competition on May 12, 2007, winning the High School State Title. They are now eligible to compete in the Nationals Competition at Gardner-Webb University in July. Autumn Jackson was also selected as the DMA Senior Miss Halftime majorette for the state of Tennessee. Congratulations ladies and best of luck at the national competition!!!!!

MRS. MESSER SELECTED FOR TMEA AWARD
Congratulations to Mrs. Messer for being selected as the Tennessee Music Educator's Association Young Music Educator of the Year. This is a very prestigious award in the state of Tennessee and Mrs. Messer is very deserving. The award will be presented to her at the opeining ceremony of the TMEA State Conference in Nashville on April 19. Be sure and give her your congratulations!! S
